Snowman dreams of cycling

Stay Active this Winter

Despite the cold temperatures, snow and ice, many of our members are still riding strong.  But you won’t find them on the roads of Haliburton county; they’ve moved indoors for the winter months.

If you haven’t given indoor cycling a try, it’s time to give it a spin! Our very own member and spin instructor, Marlene Woud, is leading spin classes on Wednesday mornings at Just Movement Fitness in Minden. This is a special indoor cycling program for HRER members. You can leave your bike at home and come jump on a spin bike. The adaptable resistance levels on the spin bike allow you to set your own resistance and pace, so the program is open to everyone. Marlene will guide you through the workout with music to keep you motivated while you cycle along with fellow HRER members.

Classes are held on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. at Just Movement Fitness in Minden.  Spots are limited, so call or text Meghan Cox, owner of Just Movement Fitness, to reserve your bike!  705-455-7270

Zwift virtual rides

Another option is to ride from the comfort of your own home using the Zwift app.  Zwift is an online cycling game and training platform that enables users to ride together in a virtual world. By pedalling on an indoor trainer or smart spin bike, you drive your avatar around a virtual course. Our group rides are set up so that everyone stays together in this virtual world, regardless of speed or power output.  To help keep our rides social, we use the Discord app to chat as we ride.  To learn more about Zwift, read the Complete Guide here.

Our virtual Zwift rides are open to all members of HRER and the Kawartha Cycling Club.  We offer three Zwift rides per week: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m.  If you would like to join us, please contact Andrew Staneland at nfgnarynaq@tznvy.pbz

Be ready for next season by riding all winter long.  Our first outdoor ride on April 29th, will be here before we know it!
